Meet the team | Robert
Today, we have the chance to have a chat with fashionTrade’s employee #4: Robert. Born and raised in the Netherlands, Robert joined the company as Sales Director in 2015. Since then, he has been our fashion expert par excellence, bringing with him a strong background in fashion wholesale and e-commerce. Prior to joining us, he worked for many recognisable brands including Suit Supply, Mexx, O’Neill, Vente-Exclusive and Etam.
Let’s get to know #fTtheFamily member, Robert!
What exactly is your role at fashionTrade?
As Sales Director, my job is to find and get new customers onboard and to engage and keep our existing customers happy. I manage two teams:
Robin and Kristel are responsible for acquiring new brands and retailers whilst Amanda and Maaike focus on assisting customers through the onboarding process and helping them to make the most of the platform on a daily basis. We have a model of mutual success: our customers’ success is our success, so we are always here to guide them along the way.
You’ve worked for many established fashion brands before – what caught your eye about fashionTrade?
Working for a brand, I had began to notice that industry-wide changes were increasingly calling for the use of complementary digital tools to ensure business could continue efficiently with retail partners. For example, we were spending serious money on producing catalogues every season – which half of the time would not be used. Being able to offer these digitally would be a direct cost saver and also better for the environment. So when I came across the fashionTrade concept, both the company and the position were (and still are) exactly what I was looking for!
Describe a regular day for you at the office.
As most of my colleagues would say: there is no such thing at fashionTrade! New projects constantly arise all the time. The one constant element in my job however is the contact I have with brands and retailers to continuously learn how we can work better together. My team and I thrive to give them the best customer experience possible.
Tell us one thing about fashionTrade, that you never experienced in your previous job(s)?
Working in a startup is completely new to me and I’m having a lot of fun by learning and doing things at the same time. We are building fashionTrade company from a to z – and it’s a lot of work but it’s also extremely satisfying.
What is your favourite fashionTrade feature?
I can’t say I have a single favourite feature – I’m excited about what our platform offers as a whole to fashion brands and retailers. I really think that we will be the big difference companies see helping improve their business over the coming months and years.
What is your favourite digital tool?
Probably Linkedin: it’s the perfect tool to find prospective partners and to stay connected with them.
What is your favourite focus song?
I listen to all sorts of music, from classical to metal. So my favourite focus song depends on my mood and what I’m working on. Classical music tends to work rather well these days, and blues is always a good choice for me.
Tell us one unexpected thing your colleagues don’t know about you?
I am an open book, there is not much my colleagues don’t know (I think)!
Do you have a favourite quote?
Good things come to those who work hard and never give up.
To finish, what is your next holiday destination?
Most likely Austria: my family and I love to go snowboarding.
